There’s a new
tv series on this season based in the U.S. It is a reality show with 15 people who go to
live in a sparse community where they try to thrive and survive with very
limited resources. There are no rules
and chaos ensues. I only saw the first
show but overall it made me think of one fact: there can never be a Utopia (a place of ideal perfection especially in laws,
government, and social conditions) as long as two human beings reside in
that place, due to our sinful, selfish natures.
Not that I
think 15 Christians would make a better go of it because the truth is we are
still all sinners and struggle with selfishness. In fact, until sin is gone and righteousness
reigns in the hearts of ALL, there
will never be a Utopia on earth because one man’s utopia is another man’s hell
and visa versa.
Even during the
Millenial reign of Jesus Christ- while Satan is bound (Rv. 20:1-3), man will not
be perfect, as Jesus and we will have to reign with a rod of iron (Rv. 19:15 ; Ps. 2:9 and Rv. 2:26 ,27). That
means some will not want to behave righteously.
People will live very long lives, a child of 100 (Is. 65:20) and then
after the thousand years, Satan convinces many to fight the Lord again, and they
are destroyed by God (Rv. 20:7-9).
See, man from
the start wants his own ways (Gn. 3:6,7) and then later at the end of the time
of judges, Samuel and God are upset for the people desire a fallible human to
rule them (1Sm 8:5-8) instead of God. So, no utopia in the Garden of Eden- two
fallible humans, and no utopia after Israel
is given the Promised Land and definitely no utopia now! There will only be a utopia when sin is no
more (nothing defiling Rv. 21:27), all enemies are vanquished (Rv. 19:20 ;
20:10 ,14,15), and God is on the
throne forevermore.
And I saw a new heaven and a new earth. For the first
heaven and the first earth had passed away. And the sea no longer is. And I,
John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down from God out of Heaven,
prepared as a bride adorned for her Husband. And I heard a great voice out of
Heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is
with men, and He will dwell with them, and they will be His people, and God
Himself will be with them and be their God.
And God will wipe away all tears from their eyes. And
there will be no more death, nor mourning, nor crying out, nor will there be
any more pain; for the first things passed away. And He sitting on the throne
said, Behold, I make all things new. And He said to me, Write, for these words
are true and faithful. Rv. 21:1-5
